It's Monday! What are you reading?

It's Monday! What are you reading? is a great weekly meme now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date. It's where we share what we've just read, what we're currently reading, and what we're starting next.

I only managed two posts last week; and after my second post, I had to desert the blog and my blogging buddies because I was brought down by a tiny, one-pound monster. Here's how it all began: the weekend before last, we heard pitiful cries coming from the woods by our house. When we went outside to investigate, this is what we found:

We searched for siblings and a mom but didn't find anything; he was all alone, filthy, and starving. It took most of the day to earn this little guy's trust, but we finally did, with patience and bribery.

We took him to the vet, and he got a clean bill of health along with shots and everything a new kitten needs. He's a little small for his age, which the vet estimated to be seven weeks, but he is doing amazing and we're sure he'll be caught up in no time.

So meet Loki, god of mischief!

Here's the part where I should probably tell you that not only am I more of a dog person, but I am also very allergic to cats. Not that I let this stop me because I love all animals. I had a rough reaction last week and thought we would need to find the little guy a new home, but I'm on some new meds and am feeling better. I think he'll be staying with us for three reasons:

1. my self-portrait:

2. this widdle face:

and 3. he's clearly a book-lover:

I'll be by to catch up with all of you later today; and of course, if you have any advice on kittens and allergies and introducing Loki to the other pets (which we haven't done yet), please feel free to share :) Now, onto the books!

    1. He just has to, lobster. I mean, he found us -- we have to keep him. We're just smitten with the little guy. I'll find a way to deal with these allergies. <3 <3 <3

  2. I guarantee if that had been me, the cat would be at my house too. I have had cats and a dog and I love them all. I am sure you will find he will sink his claws into your heart faster than you think. Besides, cats are such good snugglers and they purr. Hmm as far as allergies, maybe try generic Flonase? I take it daily for all my allergies. As far as introducing him to your other animals, I was so worried when I got my kitten about my two cats and dog, but he fit right in, he actually bullied the dog around. They will figure it out.

    1. Haha! Right? We've fallen in love -- sneezing and wheezing and swollen eyes and welts be damned! Kenzie takes Flonase and has had good luck with it. I've got a steroid spray and some pills that are conking me out but are definitely helping. I'll keep the Flonase in mind if this doesn't work out. I sure hope we can integrate him in that smoothly. Thanks, Heidi!

    1. Hehe, he's gifted! We are, too, Jess. I don't even want to think about what would have happened to the little nugget if we hadn't heard him that day. :'(

  5. Oh my gosh what a cute kitty! That picture of him peeking out of the brush is awesome. I'm a cat person so I definitely would have kept the guy too! As for introducing to other pets, we took it slow when we introduced a younger cat to the older one that we had, and it went pretty well. We made sure to take it really slow, but every cat is different.

I've been seeing good reviews for both Words in Deep Blue and The Space Between the Stars.

    1. We just couldn't believe it when we saw that precious face peeking out at us! We love him so much. We will definitely take it slow and start with our more laid-back pets first. Thank you for the advice :)
We think you'll love Words in Deep Blue, and we're almost finished with The Space Between the Stars -- it's so different from what we thought it would be, but we are really enjoying it.

  7. And now you've made me smile, and cry HAPPY tears, at the same time!! I'm not a dog or cat person. Instead I'm a horse person. (Of course, I can't have one here in our condo, lol.) BUT. I'm a HUGE SUCKER for babies, whether human or animal. This "widdle" guy has just stolen my heart!! He is SO FREAKING ADORABLE!! How sweet that you're going to keep him, in spite of your allergy! But then, you're a very sweet person, Michele, so this is only to be expected. <3 :)

I sure hope you'll continue to feature our little friend Loki (what a GREAT, and literary, name!!) on future posts!! SUPER SMOOSHY TACKLE HUGS!!!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)

    1. Awwww, I'm so glad Loki has stolen your heart, too! He is something else, Maria. I wish you could see him and his widdle face in person lol -- he is VERY entertaining! I remember a discussion we had about your love of horses -- they are so magnificent! Maybe one day you will be able to have one! Thank you for those kind words, sweet friend! I hope I can get them under control soon because he's definitely here to stay.
Haha - if the way he's been "helping" me type this comment to you is any indication, I'd say he'll definitely be back in a future post. *SUPER SMOOSHY TACKLE HUGS TO YOU* <3 <3 <3
