Pocketful of Sand has a remarkable and beautiful synopsis; it draws you in, charms you, and gives absolutely nothing away – which is why I’m keeping this review short and completely spoiler-free. I went into this story not knowing what I would find on the pages other than the stunning writing I’ve come to expect from this author, and I think this is the kind of story that is best revealed to the reader one page at a time.
I appreciated the maturity of the characters and that they both had such emotional stories to tell. I easily related to Eden’s love for Emmy, whose voice is written so perfectly and flawlessly – readers will fall in love with her immediately. Their past is unimaginable; and combined with what the mysterious Cole has lost and suffered through, all you want is for these characters to find happiness.
Ms. Leighton does something very unique in this story, and it’s extremely clever. I don’t want to give anything away, but trust me when I say it is huge!
Pocketful of Sand is beautifully tragic, with a captivating beginning, a heartbreaking middle, and an ending that is perfect for every reader.
“She’s beauty for my ashes. And I’m hope for her heartache.”
