Summary:

He’s someone she can’t trust…

She’s someone he thinks he knows…

Violet Wilson is a wallflower. Shy, serious, and accident-prone, she’s got a bad habit of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The night she’s forced to pose with her friend might just be the worst time of all—that’s when she meets Jet Blevins. She knows better than to get involved with someone like him, but he touches her in ways she never expected, never wanted before.

On the outside, Jet is a typical rocker, an arrogant lead guitarist who unapologetically lives a wild lifestyle. But on the inside, he’s battling demons and using the stage to escape the troubles of his past and the addictions of his present. Until the night he sees Violet standing at the back of the room. She brings his life into focus. She knows his secrets. She’s the girl he can’t forget, and the one thing he craves more than his addiction.

But can they ever hope to have a future when their very foundation is nothing but lies?

For There's Wild, Then There's You, Teresa of Readers Live A Thousand Lives and I did a buddy read. While we were reading we had a live discussion on twitter sharing our feels and flails as we went along. You can check out our discussion below.

When Violet’s promiscuous best friend Tia promises her fiancĂ© she will begin regularly attending a support group for sex addiction, Violet doesn’t hesitate to lend her encouragement by attending the meetings with her. But when Tia is a no-show to the very first meeting and the group’s attention falls on her, Violet freezes like a deer in headlights and makes the absolute false confession of being an addict herself.  To a room full of people.  A room that happens to include the breathtaking guy with the most incredible fathomless blue eyes she’s ever seen. Violet knows it’s insane to be attracted to someone there – not only does she feel incredibly deceitful… but it’s the last place on earth she should be looking to meet someone!  And when Jet asks Violet to be his sponsor, she does what any honorable and intelligent woman would do... she says yes.

“He’s a trouble that I don’t need.  He’s a kind of broken that I can’t fix.”

I adore Violet – she is a gentle and beautiful soul.  She dedicates her life to taking care of all of those around her.  She lives to help the helpless, fix the broken, and rehabilitate those who have become dependent on one vice or another.  It’s an admirable trait, but it can not only be exhausting at times – it can be a lonely way to live.  As good as it feels to lift someone out of whatever darkness they may be in… nine times out of ten, those people are never going to be there for you in your time of need.

What Violet truly needs is to learn to put herself first and to be with someone who wants to be there for her and make her their number one priority… question is… can she overcome her fears and let go of what she thinks she knows and really let him in?

“He’s hard where I’m soft.  Unyielding where I give.
Alluring where I drift.”

Jet Blevins.  Rock star, player, and philanderer.   Jet’s never had a woman leave him reeling – that’s his M.O. – but then again, Jet’s never met anyone like Violet Wilson.  She’s definitely not the kind of woman he’d expect to see at a meeting like this.  She’s caring and loving – clearly the kind of best friend anyone would be lucky to have.  The last thing he’d want to do is hurt someone like her.  He knows he needs to walk away… just as much as he knows he’ll never be able to.

Jet and Violet begin a risky dance, both fully aware how detrimental and volatile a relationship between the two of them could be.  But how can you have a relationship when its very basis is made of lies?  The guilt alone is eating Violet up inside… but Violet isn’t the only one keeping secrets.  Jet hasn’t exactly been truthful either and he’s got a mammoth secret of his own.  As perfect as these two seem for each other, when the truth comes out… it may signal the end of a relationship that was only just beginning.

“‘I wanted him to know that you are mine.’
‘But I’m not yours.’
‘But that doesn’t mean I don’t want you to be.’”

M. Leighton is a writing goddess.  She creates these incredible and relatable characters that I want to swoop in and save and hang out with for the rest of my life.   These characters made me laugh out loud one minute only to have my heart breaking for them in the next moment.   I couldn’t put it down, and I’m so happy I discovered this amazing author and her residents of Greenfield, SC.  Reading this book and glimpsing certain characters from a previous installment felt like meeting up with old friends; and I know that every time I pick up one her books, it will feel like going home.

A must for fans of M. Leighton’s The Wild Ones series and for all readers looking for a wonderful story that’s sweet and spicy and full of emotion.

“…even though neither of us knew we were missing
our other half, we were.”

  2. Lovely review! I feel like a bad friend. I haven't been over here in so long nor emailed you. I need to sit down and do that. I feel like these days I am running in circles. Anyway, Violet sounds like a completely lovely girl who certainly attracts her opposite. I am sure it is a wild and interesting romance as they two collide. I haven't read any of M. Leighton's NA books and I need to check one out. Thanks for the giveaway chance :)

  7. Well, I didn't have much luck with the first book in this series and thought I'd give this one a try. But ... I'm already not too keen on the sex addict route. Not the sex addiction itself, but the way it seems to be dealt with. I think I might have to pass on this to avoid going on any rants. lol.
