Teaser Tuesday (37): Brother Odd (Odd Thomas #3) by Dean Koontz

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.
Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week’s Teaser comes from the following book:

Title: Brother Odd
(Odd Thomas #3)

From Goodreads:

BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Dean Koontz's Deeply Odd.

Loop me in, odd one. The words, spoken in the deep of night by a sleeping child, chill the young man watching over her. For this was a favorite phrase of Stormy Llewellyn, his lost love. In the haunted halls of the isolated monastery where he had sought peace, Odd Thomas is stalking spirits of an infinitely darker nature.

As he steadfastly journeys toward his mysterious destiny, Odd Thomas has established himself as one of the most beloved and unique fictional heroes of our time. Now, wielding all the power and magic of a master storyteller at the pinnacle of his craft, Dean Koontz follows Odd into a singular new world where he hopes to make a fresh beginning—but where he will meet an adversary as old and inexorable as time itself.

It comes as no surprise to anyone who visits this blog regularly that -- nestled among the many young adult, new adult, and contemporary romances -- Dean Koontz's Odd Thomas novels will pop up unexpectedly.  I have so much love for this series and for the self-deprecating fry cook who sees dead people and other supernatural creatures that, gratefully, we regular humans do not.  Odd is courageous and brilliant, but it is his amazing sense of humor at the most serious and inopportune moments that makes me adore him:

My teaser:

“My cry was every bit as manly as that of a young school girl surprised by a hairy spider...  I quickly pulled my feet onto the seat and would have gathered my petticoats tightly around me if I had been wearing any."

I’d love to know what your Teaser is!
