I'm going to be completely honest here -- I stalked waited for this anthology all because of one story: "A Father's Kiss" by Colleen Hoover.  Any opportunity I have to re-visit the Slammed series (ie: Will Cooper), I will jump at. I adore Eddie, and it was icing on the cake that this story is told from her POV.  I love the little glimpse we get into the lives of our favorite characters as they settle in after the ending of This Girl. As Eddie catches us up on everyone, she shares her own peeks into two dad's lives as they lovingly care for their daughters and gently place kisses on their foreheads. Please excuse me while my ovaries go KABOOM.

This book offers up many great shorts in varying genres from the following authors:  Kate Aaron, Saxon Andrew, Jacques Antoine, Alison Blake, E. B. Boggs, Shirley Bourget, Ben Cassidy, Jason Deas, Sharon Delarose, Meghan Ciana Doidge, Suzy Stewart Dubot, Corrie Fischer, Brandon Hale, Traci Tyne Hilton, Colleen Hoover, Mona Ingram, J. L. Jarvis, Elizabeth Jasper, Anna J. McIntyre, Jess Mountifield, C. A. Newsome, S. Patrick O'Connell, Suzie O'Connell, Jeanette Raleigh, J. R. C. Salter, Molly Snow, Holli Marie Spaulding, Cleve Sylcox, Robert Thomas, Chris Ward, and George Wier.

I grabbed it for Ms. Hoover's story, but I found many more to enjoy. It is a perfect anthology for Valentine's Day -- oh, and did I mention that it's FREE?

My Rating: ★★★★

From Goodreads:

What price is too high to pay, even for love? When Jace and Clary meet again, Clary is horrified to discover that the demon Lilith’s magic has bound her beloved Jace together with her evil brother Sebastian, and that Jace has become a servant of evil. The Clave is out to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. As Alec, Magnus, Simon, and Isabelle wheedle and bargain with Seelies, demons, and the merciless Iron Sisters to try to save Jace, Clary plays a dangerous game of her own. The price of losing is not just her own life, but Jace’s soul. She’s willing to do anything for Jace, but can she still trust him? Or is he truly lost?

Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. Darkness threatens to claim the Shadowhunters in the harrowing fifth book of the Mortal Instruments series.

What a story this latest installment was!  It was gripping and nerve-wracking at times. I absolutely adored the tie-ins that connected this series to the Infernal Devices series, and it definitely brought out the fangirl in this reader!  I confess, the previous installment, City of Fallen Angels, was not my favorite; and I know some fans chose to stop the series at that point. City of Lost Souls more than makes up for any disappointments and, I felt, truly gets the series back on track.

And hello there, Alec the badass. Where have you been hiding?  His fighting skills have always been overshadowed by Jace’s, but Alec was truly allowed to shine in this book.  As a character that I often struggled with in the beginning, it was surprising to me that his story quickly became one of my favorites. I am quite worried about certain characters, and I need to see what is in store for this endearing gang. With one of the most exciting and heart-pounding endings, I would very much like for it to be May 2014 now, please.
My Rating: ★★★★
