 They're out for your soul.
And they don't have Heaven in mind...

From Goodreads:

Willow knows she's different from other girls, and not just because she loves tinkering with cars. Willow has a gift. She can look into the future and know people's dreams and hopes, their sorrows and regrets, just by touching them. She has no idea where this power comes from. But the assassin, Alex, does. Gorgeous, mysterious Alex knows more about Willow than Willow herself does. He knows that her powers link to dark and dangerous forces and that he's one of the few humans left who can fight them. When Alex finds himself falling in love with his sworn enemy, he discovers that nothing is as it seems, least of all good and evil.

Who would’ve thought angels would be the bad guys? They regard humans as cattle. Feeding from us, stealing our essence, and leaving us damaged and, eventually, completely incapacitated. All that matters to them is that they save their own kind - even if it destroys the human race in the process. Fortunately, there is a group of assassins known as the Angel Killers. But are these guys fighting a losing battle? When Alex is assigned the task of taking out one of the monsters, he comes across Willow. A sweet, mechanically inclined, somewhat quirky psychic. But there's even more to Willow than meets the eye, leading Alex to make an enormous decision. Destroy the enemy... or save her?

What an interesting and unique twist on angels! I really enjoyed the alternating point of views of Alex and Willow. I love the way his story and her story eventually merged to become “their” story. It was so much fun anticipating the moment the two characters would connect. Sounds romantic, right? Well, not so fast. There was no instant romance between these two. Sure, you know it’s going to happen - the signs are all there. But they despised each other in the beginning, and you know that’s the BEST kind of love story in my opinion.

This book contains some of my favorite elements in a story (aside from the whole “I hate you, but I really love you” thing): psychometry, assassins, monsters, traitors, fugitives on the lam, and, of course... an incredibly HAWT fictional boy.

“‘What did it feel like?’ he asked in a low voice.
‘Like...coming home,’ I admitted.”

*****
“His thumb moved slowly over my cheek.
'All of this. Having you. It's worth anything.'”

I received Angel Fire for Mother's Day, and I can't wait to find out what happens not only to these characters, but to the world!

  1. That is my favorite kind of love story, too! No wonder we're BBSes for life, right? :P I'm so glad you loved this book! I saw that you had added quotes on GR and my first thought was that you had started Angel Fire without me! You have no idea how upset I was about to be! So, when ARE we gonna read that one? It's long. Maybe we could break it up into increments of five chapters or so a night so we read TOGETHER and then we can discuss. LOL. Emphasis on together. Not Chele and Jen start and then Chele reads like a bat outta hell and Jen has to play catch-up the whole time. :P Kidding. Sorta. You read too fast for me. That, and my kiddo doesn't want to leave me alone when I'm reading.

Okay, this turned into a book instead of a comment. Great review and all that, but you already know. :P

    1. Oh, BBS! I would NEVER start a book without you! (Especially after getting an email that includes the phrase: "Don't you dare...") I try to be the best book soul-mate I can possibly be - it helps make up for how much I EPIC FAIL at buddy reading! I seriously *giggle snorted* over that. I think five chapter increments are the way to go. It will keep us "together" and ME out of trouble.

More book-like comments, please. They're my FAVE! <3

  2. Angels are bad guys in Angelfall as well! I find that fascinating. Anyway, all the fictional boys named Alex are gorgeous, why should this one be any different? Hah. I had this book on audio and I remember liking it a lot. I can't wait to read the second one.
    Lovely review as always!
